February 19, 2011 Duck Lake to St. Louis for the Poker Derby
9:30 am breakfast in Duck Lake  departure  10: 30am , return to Duck Lake by 5:30PM?   So much for the Poker Derby! After a short show of hands it was anonymous making it to St. Louis in time for the derby was no longer at the top of the list! We figured that the derby would be great but we don't think we'll ever get to St. Louis in time!

We start the ride with breakfast at the

Trappers Cabin Restaurant in Duck Lake.

It's -30 something and the work out in

the new snow makes peeling off a few layers

mandatory, IT'S OK TO BE TO HOT!

650 lbs dry + fuel, 100lbs + rider,  200+lbs

= one stuck short track in dry Saskatchewan

Powder!

Stuck............%&#@*!

We vote on worrying about the time and

an earlier proposed schedule.

So much for making it to St. Louis to do

the snowmobile poker derby.

We ride the rolling fields and hiway

ditches up to one of the Nisbet Forest

entrances near an abandoned hiway from

the early '70s.

North off the river up the 3RD Meridian

we go, and enter Adamson Lake from the

south.

Stuck

500 cc of 98SX carving the powder.

Hmm, do we dare make tracks in this

gorgeous countryside!

We take what we believe is the Bucket

Stop Trail, that was marked with a pail

hanging from a tree sometime from the

30's to the early 50's (?). In the winter time

this pail marked the shortest distance across

 the North Saskatchewan for folks

walking from the St. Louis area who were

catching the AM bus headed north into

Prince Albert for ;the day then the PM bus

 coming out in the evening

Giv'er....giv'er.....oh no.........
