We unload at the cross roads deep in Nisbet. |
The back roads are visible in all directions. |
Mostly! |
Looking south the snow in these ditches is pretty bottomless! |
A point of interest, the site of Garthland. |
We are putting an old belt on the SR7, she's going to tow the SC
7 out. |
Diagnosed as a brake in the gear box it seems the track will
turn...forward... freely so we prepare to tow her out. |
And we just entered the
Green Lake trail
area. |
This is two trips in a row
...something has gone wrong in the Green Lake Trail area! |
Back at the cross roads we embark on a new
course of action, were headed to Shellbrook. |
Man as rotten as this tree looked it
wasn't budging! |
Access to the
North Branch is pretty
...obstructed, and a little vertical! |
One by one we pop out onto the river. |
The
Steep
Creek
crossing was accessible today. |
The trail is covered in
tree hazards.
After crossing
Callaghan Lake
we head into Shellbrook for gas and lunch. |
The following signage
has been posted on the entrance to Nisbet Forest by SOMEONE or SOME
local land owners? who...believe...? Your guess is as good as mine, I
guess living next to the Forest, a public place...has led some
individual land owners to feel that the Forest and access to it is
exclusive. The DNR has advised me to tear these signs down when is is
clear they are not posted on private property. I have not. How ever a
call to the area RM office has been even more interesting, that call had
informed me that there has been gunshots fired in the area and that
travel down these back roads is not advised because of irate local land
owners and confrontations near the Forest! It sounded like ATVs have
been a problem in the summer. In fact those I spoke to did not even
recognize this said area as "Nisbet Forest" but referred to it only, as
the "Hazelwood livestock pasture".
What do you do with that?
We have seen these signs or variations for 20 years, posted by a long
time resident obviously.
03-05
After lunch we pull out of Shellbrook and are greeted at one of
the entrances to Nisbet Forest by a new selection of signs. |
This kind of activity is what gives signage questionable
authority. |
OK help is on... |
...the way! |
Rolling in from the north we sit at the
Cut across road/Lily plain intersection. |
Cut across road is looking pretty good from here! |
